Augie Pabst was the husband of Vicky Varney for a short time.

Vicky and Augie first got together at Central Michigan University in 1990 in their sophomore year after Vicky found her roommate Melissa loudly engaged in sex in their room. As Vicky later tells Jason MacRae, "Well, I knew who this guy was, so I slammed the door, went down to his room, beat on the door, and when his roomie answered it I said, Your roomie is down there fucking my roomie, so I'm going to bed with you." It wasn't until the next year and after Melissa's death, that Vicky got more serious about Augie. As Vicky told Sandy Beach, "I decided I'd better take what I could get, and it wasn't the brightest move I ever made."^HT27

The couple married in June of 1992, just after the pair graduated. "Both got jobs and bought a house in Troy, in the northern suburbs not far from Warren."^HT21 Sandy Beach also lived in Warren when she was beaten by her husband, Robbie Buehler, and Vicky gave her a hand to escape.^HT27

Augie has an unnamed sister, who sold him her 1989 Olds Cutlass Ciera which ended up with Vicky after their divorce.^HS3

Vicky left Augie sometime in 1996.^HS3 Emily Holst explained, "I still don't know what all happened with him. I mean, I know he beat her up, and I guess it wasn't the first time. I'm pretty sure there was more than that, but I don't know what."^HS14 It's a story that clashes with Vicky's expertise with knives. "Had the bastard I divorced ever forced me to heave a blade at him, he knew I wouldn't hae missed."^HS20 Vicky called her parents and "Mignon decided they needed more space to haul stuff than they could get in a couple cars, so called in Emily and Kevin with their minivan and pickup truck."^HS14 She stayed in Las Vegas for part of her divorce,^HS18 but actually filed in Michigan. She only went to Nevada to avoid being found, working as a maid at a hotel. It was there that she was arrested for DUI and stopped drinking.^HS22

Years later, Vicky tells Jason how Augie caught her by surprise, beat and sodomized her before beating her some more. While he went out, she immediately armed herself with a knife before calling Emily, who arrived promptly with her husband, armed with a shotgun. Emily also called the police.^HS22
