Summary
Dave decided to move to Bradford; leaving open the possibility in going back the following spring, to Shae and Staten Island.
Stan makes an offer for Dave and the kids to go to Hartford, CT, and get involved with the Albright's business. Dave politely declines such a large change, but leaves open a possible reconsideration in 6–12 months. Facing the emotionally and logistically difficult task of moving from his Battery Park apartment, Shae suggests asking Emily to organize a truck with some helpers from Bradford. Emily eagerly agrees to help.
Dave goes back to Bellinger Gates, the financial firm where Julie worked. They were devastated in the 9/11 attack, but several branches survived. Dave talks to their Human Resources, and then to an account executive, Martin Clemens. Dave finds that in addition to Julie's considerable life insurance policy, Julie left an investment account worth almost a million dollars.
Somewhat dazed, Dave discusses his relocation with Michelle and Dick at Dunlap and Fyre. He tells Dick that he'll come to the office once a month, for two or three days; which Dick feels is not ideal but tolerable. Dave is almost finished editing Dithyran's Probe, and Michelle asks him to start on another manuscript. It got delayed in the process, and Michelle would like to push it: Swordsman of Atlantis, a first book by Larissa Hamilton.
