Summary
The chapter opens with Dave, Shae and a few others having breakfast at the Chicago Inn. Dave gets an offer of a small house for rent, right across the street from his mother's house. Later on Dave investigates the kindergarten and elementary school in Bradford. He is leaning more and more towards relocating to Bradford for a while.
He, Shae and many others attend the 9/11 benefit concert organized by Emily. The concert is a success with emotional shows of support, and excellent music by Michigan Hillbillies, Sanda and Dayna, and the headliners Cold Spring Rain.
Later that night, Shae asks Dave to live with her; she is lonely and would like him as a friend and possibly more, she is also very fond of his boys. He tells her that it's just too soon after Julie's death, but he leaves the possibility open that it will happen. They sleep together, just to have somebody to hold.
