Matt Peckanen was Randy Clark's roommate at Northern Michigan University.
Matt was a journalism major and he often talks with a Yooper accent. Upon graduation from NMU, marries Janelle, Randy being the best man in June 1997.DW49
Initially Matt gets a job on local radio, but is fired for talking yooper. He becomes the junior reporter at Spearfish Lake Record-Herald newspaper replacing Brenda Hodunk in June 1998.DW59
At the end of January 2001, after doing a good job there, albeit not Aherns-winning, Matt moves on to cover the state legislature for the Geneva Reporter,BB16 SQ13. Carla Stanton replaces him as the junior reporter.
