Summary
Randy starts his day at the Three Pines casino job, and finds that Rod is getting more and more confident as a construction superintendent. It is late in the day when he makes it back to his office, only to find a mound of paperwork on his desk.
Karin calls to see if there is any news of Crystal, the last anyone heard she was in Seattle, and Randy thinks she might have returned to the salmon boat. With Myleigh in England, and Nicole at Girl Scout camp, no-one else is likely to have news of her. Later that day Randy gets home to find everyone out, and a postcard from Crystal saying that she's surfing in Hawaii. Randy emails this news to Karin.
A few minutes later Matt and Janelle Peckanen arrive on his doorstep. Matt lost his job at a radio station for talking Yooper, but has been hired as the new junior reporter at the Record-Herald. ... all dey would let me do (at the radio station) is read da canned news an' da hog futures, eh? I never did no real reportin', and den one day I got tired of dat and give da whole news show in Yooper, yaah. Holywa, I taught I was gonna be cuttin' pulp after all, after dat. Randy takes them to dinner at the Inn to give the three of them some catch-up time.
Janelle is a Registered Nurse, and Randy promises to put her in touch with Shovelhead, then has to explain who he is. With his help she is soon working with a home-care program for the elderly.
Randy enjoys having friends his own age in Spearfish Lake, but seeing their marriage starts getting him wanting to settle down himself. When Nicole gets back from camp she has news that she's going back to look after the camp whilst the director goes to OLTA. After that she will be working roughly four months of maternity cover at a high school near the camp.
