Junie was a North Carolina hillbilly friend of Buck Jacklin who started the 1953 season with MMSA. He was brother to Hap and distant cousin to Buckshot. During testing he didn't seem to understand racing to put on a show not smash cars up. Spud cut the power with restrictor plates for the first race.^BR1-26

The restrictors were still in place at Schererville, Indiana so Hap and Junie were battling each other at the back of the field in the heat. In the last lap they crashed and both cars rolled.^BR1-27 Both Hap and Junie were badly injured and taken to hospital, where MMSA had to leave them. Buckshot stayed behind too to get them home when the hospital released them.^BR1-28

Junie worked with Buckshot on Hap's ’52 Oldsmobile at Daytona in 1954.^BR1-36
