Reverend John Saunders was the pastor of Lexington Community Church and another chuirch the other side of Carondelet - about 70 miles from Lexington.
He was characterised as a real Bible thumper,CR2 a loudmouth,CR22 very arrogant and sure of himself.CR22
It was rumoured that he'd dropped out of high school. He had never attended college or seminary and was self-ordained.CR22
He refused to take a funeral for Elmer Pepper because of Elmer's suicide, even though Elmer and his wife Gladys had been members of the Lexington church twenty years ago.CR15
