James Lambert was a Methodist minister who had a civilian job in Japan at the end of World War II. He and his unnamed wife adopted at least one child from an orphanage there, presumably the child of an American GI and a Japanese prostitute.DM2 The couple raised Bob in a suburban white American neighborhood with little connection to his Japanese cultural heritage. By 1991, James and his wife were living in Florida, presumably retired.DM11 They both traveled to Bradford, Michigan, to attend Sonja's wedding to Scott Tyler. James conducted her wedding service in the Methodist church there.DM12
