Bob Lambert was the adopted son of the Rev. James Lambert, who had a civilian job in Japan at the end of World War 2. He is presumed to be the child of an American GI and a Japanese prostitute. "He’s larger and darker than the average Japanese, but everybody thinks his features are more western than black, although that’s a possibility, along with dark Hispanic. Dad likes to think American Indian, although again, there’s no way to know."DM2
Bob was raised in a suburban white American neighborhood with little connection to his Japanese cultural heritage. "while he may have been of partially Japanese descent, had little practical knowledge of Japan, although he liked to think he did."DM9 His father was a Methodist minister and he raised his daughter in that church.
Bob met Zivah in college, at the University of Nebraska. "I think they hit it off mostly because they were about the same skin color in a place that was pretty white. From what I understand, they moved in with each other within hours of meeting, and didn't get married until I was just about to be born."DM2
Their child is Sonja Lambert. When Sonja was two years old, the Yom Kippur War broke out and Zivah went to Israel in support, leaving Sonja with her father. She ended up staying and the couple divorced.
Some years later, Bob remarried to Gina Lambert, American-born from an Italian heritage. " Sonja’s half-brothers at twelve and ten, were named Dominique and Alphonse, although they were usually called Dom and Al"DM9
Bob was the one to first suggest marriage as a solution to Sonja and Scott Tyler's problem.DM10
