Reverend Herbert Fowler was pastor of the Hawthorne First Methodist Church.

He saw Alan Jahnke and Summer Trevetheck praying to the Goddess outside Hawthorne County Hospital and offered to give them a lift back to campus. After saying “In times like these, believers have to stick together.” he introduced himself, surprising Alan and Summer that he valued their faith even though it was different from his own.^SLH31

Following a lively discussion in the car he invited Alan and Summer to his church the next day so he could introduce them to the congregation as an example of fellow believers in love, not hate.^SLH32
