Summary
Nanci had got started cleaning the parsonage kitchen when Bernice Reed and Edith Hawley arrived to help. Bernice organised a work bee of people from the Tyler and Conestoga churches to get the parsonage cleaned up.
Margie Griffin took Nanci off to a house the bank owned and told her to take whatever furniture and housewares she needed. Donated to the church it would be worth more to the bank as a tax write-off than they would likely get at auction.
Amber Wallace liked to stay in the library after school to avoid some of the bullying. Mrs. Parkinson, the school librarian, told Amber Wallace she had to close. Amber then went to the girls' locker room to get a good shower before going home where she did her homework in the daylight to avoid having to use a lantern later.
Driving home fom the work bee, Cathy Westbrook and Shirley Gamble spotted Elmer Pepper's truck at West Walke Cemetery and commented that it had been there when they went by in the morning. They stopped to check and found he'd killed himself with his shotgun, so they called the sheriff.
