Amber Wallace was a fifteen year old high school student struggling to live independently because her mother was often not around, and didn't bother about Amber when she was.

Her clothes came from dumpsters and other people's trash. Her food similarly or from what was spilled on the ground at the grain mill apart from school lunch. Sometimes she didn't get any food over a weekend.

Amber was generally regarded as badly as her mother and expected to turn out the same.

Amber was determined to graduate high school and thought her best move after school would be to get away from Tyler and join the military where she could expect housing and regular meals.

One Monday in the winter she had told Keith Westbrook that she hadn't eaten anything over the weekend. Starting then Keith gave her his school lunch each day.^CR1

Her mother, Linda, had disappeared for over a week when Nanci Chladek took Amber in.^CR11 When Linda was found dead in Denver Nanci agreed to become Amber's guardian until she turned eighteen.^CR22

Amber was keen to learn about Christianity and built her faith to the point that she was baptised in the Colorado River at Lee's Ferry while waiting with the Canyon Tours White Team for their customers to arrive.^CR24
