Summary

Gerald Pepper was in Tyler early on Tuesday afternoon to ask Nanci whether she thought Amber would look after Leah some through the summer when he had work. He was surprised that Amber met hiim at the door. He learned that they had been down to Carondelet to get Nanci made Amber's legal guardian. Amber agrees to look after Leah andthey'll sort out details as needed.

Gerald was still carefully going through his grandfather's things and had found another thousand dollars that morning, which would keep him and Leah a little longer towards the day probate was settled. He reminded himself of the need to get divorced so he could move on.

Amber and Nanci agreed to have Linda Wallace's body cremated in Denver, and to scatter the ashes in the little cemetery east of Tyler. They decided just to hold a ceremony at the cemetery, expecting to be the only people there. They were suprised to see Sheriff Shoemaker, Larry and Bernice Reed, Art and Shirley Gamble at the cemetery when they got there and Trent, Cathy and Keith Westbrook followed by Gerald and Leah Pepper arriving soon after.

When Amber spoke of her mother during the brief service Nanci saw tears in Amber's eyes for the first time.

Nanci invited everyone at the funeral back to the parsonage for refreshments. During conversation with Trent Westbrook, Nanci used the example of him working with buffalo to get her point about Amber across and the relationship between Nanci and the Westbrooks was repaired.
