Summary
Ted came close to knocking T.J. Wireman's third car out of the race but lost control in the final corner of his last qualifying run.
T.J. Wireman offered Ted Hilkyard a spot as relief driver for the Indy 500 and a drive for the next race, in Milwaukee. He also offered Ray a job as a line mechanic with the prospect of being car chief in a couple of years. He wanted the two of them and Ginger in his pit box for the Indy 500 anyway.
Ray turned down the job but accepted the offer to be on the team for next year's Indy 500.
