Audrey Melbourne was a Canadian from the Toronto area who joined Andrew's artist colony in Blanche Tickle for a couple of weeks. She spent a couple of days alone sketching and painting at Ballycotton Cove until Adam Caldwell sailed the Mary Sue round from Blache Tickle to pick her up.

Of a similar age to Adam Caldwell, relatively slender, with auburn hair and a nice smile.

She had enjoyed sailing with her husband, Bert, on their thirty-foot Alberg which she had had to sell after Bert's death, perhaps five years previously. They had two children, Bertie (married to Jossette) and Christine.

Audrey lived near Toronto and the family had a summer cottage on Georgian Bay. She was able to give Adam some advice about sailing Georgian Bay when he said he had a trip there planned.DS25

She met Adam Caldwell again when he was sailing round Georgian Bay with Carolyn Lewis and spent a day sailing with them.DS27

She spends winter in Florida to escape the Toronto weather, and again met Adam Caldwell when he was cruising on the Knick-Knack. She spent some time cruising with him before they each headed back north.DS32

Audrey got a lot of static from Bertie and Josette about the time he'd spent with Adam in Florida. Initially she tried to keep the peace and turned down Adam Caldwell's offer to join him on the Moonshadow

The morning Adam was leaving Frenchtown Harbor on the Moonshadow Audrey just made it in time to join him on his next adventure to Newfoundland and then south to Florida.

“I changed my mind. You were right. I have to do what I want to do, not what they want me to do. I’m afraid they’re not going to be very happy when they find out, but that’s going to be their problem, and not mine.” DS36

Audrey and Adam were considering marriage, and whether that would help the realtionship with Bertie and Josette. They also considered couintinuing as they were "Perhaps we shall just carry on as we are now and not worry much about propriety. If nothing else, it might twist Josette’s tail enough that sooner or later she will have to accept reality." RD32
