Summary
Jake Lewis is headed in any direction that is away from Brittany when he stops for a meal in the snack bar at the Channel Stop in Winchester Harbor.
A good deed fixing the power plug on a deep fryer (a french fry cooker) in the Channel Stop kitchen lands him a summer job as a combination dock hand, fuel pump attendant, maintenance man and eventually a short order cook. Free meals and a free motel room are part of the benefits of the job.
He has no idea that the direction of his life has just totally changed.
