Summit Pit

Summit Pit is a limestone quarry owned by Summit Limestone somewhere to the east of Walsenberg and on the C&SL Railroad.^AF15

The Summit Pit had originally been served by the D&O Railroad from the south via Kremmling until 1975 when the D&O was prepared to drop the run. The pit became an important early customer of the C&SL instead.^SX01 As the C&SL ran the trains west to Warsaw, Spearfish Lake and then south to the Camden docks, the Kremmling Branch to the south lay unmaintained until it was needed to help in the fight against the big Warsaw Fire in 1981.

Of course, the quarry was a seasonal business. The pits would close during the winter.^SX22
