Summary

Josh and Tiffany visit the Eagle River Elementary School where Shelly Goodlock teaches 4th grade at as a thank-you for all the help she has given them. Shelly attended school in Spearfish Lake at the same time as Josh's brother John. She is one of the few out-of-town snail-mail subscribers to the Spearfish Lake Record-Herald weekly newspaper, and when she read that a Spearfish Lake team was entering the Iditarod, she contacted them to volunteer any assistance she could give. In return all she asks is that Josh and Tiffany visit her school after the race is over to give a show-and-tell talk and short sled rides to her kids.

As they start the drive back to Spearfish Lake they start to discuss the future. If they want to race again they have to be more professional about it, but that means being able to generate a sustainable income. They know that they'll be able to sell puppies from dogs that have raced the Iditarod, and there's the possibility of sled tours for paying customers.

There is a possibility opening for an outfitter's shop, and Josh wonders about kayaking on the lake, and they decide to talk to Joe McGuiness, a local kyaker, about that. They don't want to depend on cash handouts from Jenny Easton again and again, as that would get in the way of their friendship.

This is the final chapter of Runner's Moon .
