Summary
Amanda Lewis, the primary character of the book, is introduced with her background of boating and sailing.
Amanda is helping her father on a rather rough fishing trip. Upon return, they find Adam Caldwell at the Channel Stop. She asks him how the Knick-Knack, which she'd sold him, had worked out and was glad it had suited him for the summer.
The issue of Adam finding a more capable larger boat comes up, and Amanda recalls a possible craft she'd had a brief look at, the Moonshadow.
Jake cancelled tomorrow's fishing trip as the weather forecast was as bad as today's had been. He also called the brokerage Amanda had mentioned and confirmed the boat was still in the water. They agreed to go over early enough that Jake could do a thorough survey if Adam was interested.
