Summary

Mel Austin was drafted before he graduated high school and was trained to be a jeep mechanic. After a year in Kansas he was shipped to a motor pool on Okinawa where he worked for Frank Blixter. After Mel was promoted to sergeant corporals Spud McElroy and Carnie Wollett were posted to the motor pool.

Spud and Frank told of how they'd each got into racing midgets.
