Summary
The motor pool built a hot rod jeep from two wrecked ones and lots of engine modification.
When the divisional commander wanted something to celebrate victory over Japan Frank suggested a jeep race. It grew to a limit of 42 entries which needed both Frank and Spud to run so they couldn't drive. Mel won the motor pool time trials to drive the hot rod.
Mel just won his first heat. He learned that his rival had been a Carolina moonshine hauler before he got drafted, and he knew how to handle a car on dirt.
