Summary
The heat races were run, then Frank Blixter and Spud McElroy ran a 2 jeep race before the main final.
Mel won the final and was awarded staff-sergeant stripes and a trophy for Okinawa-Pacific Stock Car Champion, 1945.
After Frank and Spud had returned to the States Mel and Carnie were sent to join the occupation OF Japan on Kyushu. While there Carnie fixed Mel up with a Japanese prostitute, Myukio, who taught him about men and women.
In the summer of 1946 Mel's regiment was returned to the states, landing in San Francisco. Mel traded in his train ticket for cash and hitch-hiked and jumped trains to get home.
