Summary
On the day Phil finished the Iditarod, John and Candice are following their usual workday routines. There is news about a shooting outside Hopkins Middle School, and also that Candice's employer is to be bought out by a larger bank. Debbie Mansfield, Candice's friend at work rings her up to talk about it - upset that it was on the news before the employees had been told. They realise that their jobs are at risk from the merger. Candice opens a letter to find that Shay has been assigned to Hopkins Middle School rather than the one they wanted.
Tiffany flies home, leaving Phil & Brandy to bring the dogs home by road, after having paid their traditional visit to Shelly Goodlock's school. Tiffany is met at the airport by Josh and her parents.
On the journey back Josh breaks the news that the railroad season is starting early, so they haven't much time, and since other staff aren't around, Josh needs Tiffany to brake for him. They talk a bit about the race, and about Brandy turning up in Nome. They still hadn't found a dog handler, even though Eric Aho has been helping out at the dog lot.
