In the Spearfish Lake Tales universe Dr. McIntyre was a professor at Central Michigan University that taught a seminar on Prostitution that Dayna Berkshire and Sandy Beach attended.

Dr. McIntyre "had spent considerable time working with a teen prostitute halfway house in New York. She knew the business pretty close to first-hand, at least that part of it, and she'd been exposed to other parts."^HT14

For the final, instead of a research paper, Dr. McIntyre allowed Dayna and Sandy to research and perform songs about prostitution.

It was information learned in this seminar that allowed Dayna to understand Jennlynn Swift's cryptic comments to Emily Holst. During the seminar Dr. McIntyre had mentioned that at that time the Mustang Ranch was the largest legal bordello in Nevada.^HT19

Sandy was the one to put much of what she learned to practical use, while waiting for her divorce from Robbie Buehler. She found employment at the Redlite Ranch.^HT28 It wasn't long before Dayna joined her there.^HT29
