Summary
Garth Matson was the captain commanding “D” Battery of the 144th Artillery, the local national guard unit, when they were called up in the fall of 1940. The day they left his wife Donna sought comfort in the arms of Wayne Clark, and frequently thereafter.
A mix up over map coordinates had Battery D attempting to camp at a nudist resort. Garth accepted an invitation for the weekend from Helga Inghulsen and subsequently told his lawyer to get on with the divorce.
When the divorce was finalised in 1943 Garth married Helga with most of Battery D in attendance.
After service in Italy Battery D was welcomed home on Veterans' Day 1945. By this time Wayne Clark had married Donna Matson.
