Janet Mackey was married to Glenn Mackey, a Spearfish Lake Vietnam vet until he was killed in June 1978 while mowing his own lawn when a drunk driver ran off the road. At the time, the couple had two children, ages five and seven.
Janet had trouble adapting to the loss of Glenn, but his friends helped as they could. Bud Ellsberg lived just down the street and would mow her lawn and plow out her driveway. She dated both Steve Augsberg and Ed Snyder until Ed got more serious. She married Ed in 1979 with Steve serving as his best man.
Ed transferred in 1979 to the Jerusalem Paper plant in North Carolina where they were building a high-tech line. He and Janet had a child of their own in addition to the two she'd had with Glenn.
