Dan Plemmons started as a swamper with Canyon Tours in 1997 , at the same time as Jerry Palmer, another boatman. Dan continued as a boatman after graduating from college in 1999.
In 2001 he had a seizure on a tripRR57 and had to be flown out on a helicopter. Jerry revealed "He had a brain tumor in high school, he told me once. He had chemo for a while and the doctors said they thought they'd licked it. But this spring, he just didn't strike me as being as well as last spring. Of course, I couldn't get the dumbass to see a doctor."
The seizure is also mentioned in the backstory in Down by the Riverside Chapter 1.
Following the seizure Al kept him on working in the Canyon Tours office, driving and assisting Jeff Pleva with equipment maintenance.
