Summary
As the end of the crossing drew near Matt and Mary discussed what to do next. They decided to land at Galway and clear customs there before deciding whether to head north or south. The last night before landfall they reefed the sails to be sure they arrived in daylight.
On the way to a hotel in Galway they buy some new clothes so they have something clean to wear. They enjoy a long hot shower together and test the bed before going out to eat. When they get back Mary suggests that Matt should phone home, which he does while not admitting where they are and gets the expected reaction from his mother.
After the phone call Matt reminds Mary that it is likely his life will be short and that their time together will probably end in sadness for her. He offers her a flight back to Newfoundland but she prefers to enjoy the time they have together, however long or short that is.
