Terry Dolcett had just finished up his freshman year of college when he joined Duane's Gold Team as a boatman for the first time.

Scooter had picked him out on a trip several years before, when as a customer on the trip with his father and mother he had proved to be a good worker – especially when the kid on tryout as a prospective swamper was not. Curious, Scooter let him have some time at the sticks, both on flat water and in moderate rapids, and in spite of never having been on a raft before that trip, he’d shown that he had the touch.

He spent the summer after he graduated from high school as a swamper on Scooter's team. Scooter recommended him and said that with experience he was going to be a great boatman.^INTA7

Terry and Erika Mowrer seemed to be sniffing around each other a little from the first trip, and she took him home when they had a break.^INTA18

During the last trip before returning to college Erika and Terry talked about travel between Phoenix and LA to maintain their friendship. He was studying at Crocker College outside of Los Angeles.^INTA25

Over the winter Terry and Erika fell out so it was good they were on different teams the following year.^INTA27
