Spearfish Signs is Jackie Gravengood's home business, located near the dead end of Busted Axle Road. Her husband Mark helps out.

Spearfish Signs shares the barn behind their house with their toys - a Cessna 140 airplane (Rocinante), a Schweizer 1-26 glider, and more. There's also a small observatory. For a while, there was a horse.BAR796 And later, a bunch of sled dogs live behind the barn.

Jackie got started making signs when she and Mark visited Twillingate, Florida in 1971. A strong thunderstorm and an accompanying tornado forced them to land at the first available airstrip and the tornado-driven debris ended up punching holes all the way through both wings of Rocinante.

Mark had his father ship them the wing repair materials and while they were waiting for it to arrive Mark helped Paul Thibodaux with repairs to the storm damaged telephone poles and restringing the phone lines. Jackie helped Pauls wife Bessie run the switchboard, and in her spare time used some of the leftover airplane paint to repair the telephone company sign, then the general store sign, and more. All of this is covered in Chapter 28 of Rocinante.

In Chapter 52 of Busted Axle Road Jenny Easton leads a camera crew out to Spearfish Signs, where she gets into Rocinante. Jackie flies above the main street of the town at an altiude of several hundred feet which results in Lenny and Sherwin from Hollywood Tonight being arested for speeding.

In Chapter 126 Mark invites the Camden Dog Sled Association to use his property and training trails for their monthly meeting, and uses the sign for Spearfish Signs as a landmark.
