Schererville was Arlene Pewabic's home town.
At the race rack Hap and Junie crashed and were badly injured. Arlene Pewabic took control of first aid and casualty care until they were able to be taken to hospital.
Arlene drove a borrowed Ford hot rod to second in her heat, and was invited to try an MMSA midget the next afternoon.
Hap and Junie had to be left in the hospital, and their cousin Buckshot stayed behind in Schererville with them.
