Sam Collins is the manager at Sun Studio, the recording studio and museum in the book Hat Trick. When Dayna Berkshire and Sandy Beach arrive to record their music first thing in the morning he's there to unlock the doors for them.
Sam feels old when he has to explain the history of Sun Studio to Sandy, who was not an Elvis fan. Sam was described as " middle-aged man".HT19

Sun Studio is a real studio at 706 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. The list of people that recorded there includes (wikipedia links) Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Charlie Feathers, Ray Harris, Warren Smith, Charlie Rich, Jerry Lee Lewis, and later on U2, Def Leppard, Bonnie Raitt, Ringo Starr and John Mellencamp. Plus others too numerous to mention.
