Summary
The Sun Studio workers are impressed with the speed and professionalism of Dayna and Sandy, but suggest that their music needs percussion. The girls are willing to experiment with a local session musician that comes highly recommended by both Sam and Walker, an elderly old-time blues drummer, Mr. Tom. In conversation he reveals that played with Lucille Bogan herself in his youth and suggests "it'd be easier to name the names of the people I ain't played with". Dayna is happy to discover good percussion helps without overwhelming.
Surprisingly, the five days find the pair had recorded all their prepared music and allowed the final afternoon to be for fun. With another couple session musicians, they recorded several Lucille Bogan pieces, the cleaner ones when the visiting public were around!
Everything wasn't completed before Dayna and Sandy had to hit the road. They were at a Louisiana renfaire when boxes of two different CDs arrived. Faire Maiden contained their traditional songs while Genie in a Bottle was blues oriented.
Dayna and Sandy learned when and how to sell their CDs. They could sell both at renfaires, but only bothered with Genie in a Bottle at club shows. "Within weeks they realized that the CD sales were well ahead of their expectations." They knew that when they reordered, they'd make it a larger quantity for a discount on volume.
Without high expectations, Dayna decided to try breaking into the western renfaire circuit and sent a set of their CDs to a manager with an Arizona renfaire. They ask their new rep from Arizona to get them other places, avoiding a long drive back to Michigan for the holidays, something Sandy wanted to avoid.
As a break from their hard pace and before driving to Arizona, the girls head to South Padre Island and some skinny-dripping fun in the surf and work on their tan. They even playfully bury Sandy again for more tickling fun. The couple spend a bit of time talking about their love for each other.
