Summary
Dave is slowly getting used to life in Bradford -- and life without Julie. He frequently talks to Emily; she has become his good friend and a source of local knowledge.
Shae is on the phone every night: first telling a story to the boys, and then talking to Dave, sometimes for an hour or more.
Dave makes progress with his editing job. He has misgivings about Larissa Hamilton's fantasy story, which he passes on to Michelle, his supervisor at Dunlap and Fyre. She asks for details in an email. On the same call he volunteers for more work, and is assigned to read and whittle down the slush pile (oh, joy...).
Later that day, as he composes the email regarding Larissa's book he realizes that it's the one month anniversary of September 11... a month since the day, a month that Julie had been gone. He'd hardly noticed it. [...] As it was, he was far away enough and things were different enough that he felt only a brief pang of pain and loss.
