Jody MacRae was the first wife of Jason MacRae and biological mother of their son Duane.
Jason first met Jody, picking her up in his Firebird convertible. He was driving in a parade and she was a homecoming queen candidate riding in the back.HS1 She was one of the town girls, splitting the town vote while the country girl won the title by two votes, devastating Jody. Jason was the shoulder she cried on. Jody got pregnant by Jason after her freshman year of college.HS2
"Jody made a lousy mother. She resented being tied down to an infant, resented the restrictions marriage and motherhood put on her freedom. Finally, one day while Duane was still very small, Jason came home from a hot day at work to discover the toddler had been left with his parents. Jody and her clothes and things were gone -- where, he had no idea, and still didn't."HS2
Jason never heard directly from Jody. Jason once told his son, "The last time I talked to her parents, and that was a long, long time ago, I got the impression they had some idea she was still alive but weren't real clear on where she was or what she was doing."HS15
Vicky Varney had lived right behind the MacRae's while growing up. Eight years older than Duane, she remembers Jody and the abandonment affected her some, too.HS2
