Chica was the trail name of Charlotte, a short, slender, dark-haired girl, when she hiked the Appalachain Trail in the summer of 1999. For three months she was the trail companion of Duane MacRae and his girlfriend for a while afterwards.

Her home was in Waynesville, North Carolina and she was going to be a teacher.^HS26

She was living with Duane when she started student teaching ad found it stressful to have him round when she had her prep work to do. She was releived when Duane was offered a job with Canyon Tours in the Grand Canyon and moved back to her parents' home from their apartment.^HS31
