Alien?
I am confused when the "Alien" nickname started.
I thought it started on January 21, 2002:PE33
- Randy couldn't take it anymore. "Michelle," he said seriously, "No human being can drink like that and still be that chipper in the morning. What the fuck, are you from Roswell or something?"
- "No," she laughed. "But my grandparents are."
- "That settles it," he said with a shake of the head that he realized he'd have been better off not doing. "That fucking explains everything. You really aren't human. Rhonda here has been called 'Scooter' for years and your boyfriend is known on the river as 'Icewater.' I think we'd better start calling you 'Alien.'"
But then we have Duane MacRae musing 6 days earlier (January 15, 2002):PE30
- she was going to spend with her grandparents in . . . Roswell?
- Oh, come on, he thought. You don't really believe that! She was probably just pulling Randy's leg; he'd left her an opening and she'd taken advantage of it. As far as he knew her family was all around Flagstaff, more or less. Her parents lived out at Grand Canyon Village, where their gift shop was located . . . and they did look awful young for their age, just like Michelle . . .
And, to add to my confusion, Michelle first tells Duane that her grandparents are in Roswell on December 27, 2001.PE25 But Duane may have forgotten that by the time he is musing on January 15. But clearly, the Randy joke must precede Duane's contemplation of it.
Great minds are thinking alike. Actually, FYI, in the original draft I had the sequence of events a little different.--Wes (talk) 22:18, 26 May 2012 (EST)
- Great minds may well think alike, but to refer to pulling Randy's leg implies Duane already heard the interchange between Randy and Michelle. No?--Samuelmichaels (talk) 01:24, 27 May 2012 (EST)
