Just wanting a clarification on Capitalization on this site - Mikey has just decapitlized some High School Subjects on this page but not others. I personally think this is wrong (being more versed in English English rather than American English). Is this correct?

Secondly can we have an agreement (for consistency) on whether there should be a double space after a period. Initially this happened but hasnt been recently... Any thoughts?

School Subjects

The common approach is to capitalize them if they refer to a specific course, e.g. Advanced Calculus, or History 101, but not calculus or history. In a small school with limited selection of courses, a generic name such as chemistry may refer to a specific course, in which case it's the wiki editor's judgement call, since it conveys slightly different meaning. John is taking chemistry implies some course in this subject. John is taking Chemistry implies there is a specific class given at a certain time by a specific teacher.

Proper nouns in the subject or course name are capitalized even if not referring to a specific course, so John is taking Spanish even when it's not referring to a specific class.--Samuelmichaels (talk) 02:54, 29 September 2012 (EST)

Space After Period

The old typewriter convention is to put two spaces after a period (full stop). This is no longer needed, as most formatting tools will automatically display a slightly longer space after a sentence end (including period, question mark and exclamation point) in proportional font.

Specifically, in this wiki, it will all display the same, whether you start the new sentence after one space, two spaces, or even (my favorite for ease of subsequent edits) on a new line.

One space:

First. Next.

First. Next.

Two spaces:

First. Next.

First. Next.

New line:

First.
Next.

First. Next.
