Lyle Borton, before his death, owned a plot of land next to Mark and Jackie Gravengood on County Road 427, unofficially and better known as "Busted Axle Road". He had built a small home on the land but after his death the house burned down. He is mentioned in passing in Chapter 4 of Runner's Moon .
When Jackie's brother Josh was looking for a place of his own, Mark and Jackie suggested he look into buying the property, which he did. After Josh and Mark got involved with sled dogs the road became known (jokingly) as "Dog Town Road".
