Ed Sorensen was the brother of Chet Sorensen and had lived in Arvada Center, but he died sometime before 1983. His house and farm were just across the road from his brother and the two farms were combined. His old house provided a home for Chet's oldest son, Tom when he got married.

"Ed ... had been badly shot up in Korea as a young man. With a leg and an arm amputated, the other leg almost useless, he'd been unable to do much for himself. The family had done the best they could to support him and help him out for over twenty years, until he had finally died in a veteran's hospital."^TNG03

When Chet first met his son Ken's partial paralyzed girlfriend Judy Niven, he warned Ken with parallels to Ed. After Judy managed to save his life, Chet admitted his error in judgment.^TNG04

Later when Judy met Tommy Fetzer, she complained to Ken about Tommy's self-centered self-pity. Ken replied, "He sounds just like Uncle Ed, after he got shot up in Korea... He wanted everyone to feel sorry for him, and he made sure they knew it."^TNG07
