Summary

The coming of autumn sends Mark and Jackie and Rocinante south. Gettysburg wasn't as boring as Jackie expected. They also stopped in Washington, DC for the Smithsonian before arriving in North Carolina. They fly to a spot allowing them to hike the Appalachian Trail. After 5 days on the trail, they hit a bad spot with many downed trees from a windstorm or tornado. They spend the next few days with a crew of volunteers helping clear the trail. Although they spent a lot of time working with their new friends, they remarked to themselves how it didn't develop into anything close.
