Summary
The Coldwater ladies auxiliary, the Fire Belles, once held bake sales and competed in waterball, until one fire where they responded quickly and saved a house. They since earned Fire Certificates, first aid cards or became EMTs. This time they use their snowmobiles to rescue Diane from the wrecked Alco. They strap her to a backboard, tuck her in a sleeping bag and slowly follow their tracks back to town. Bruce rides with her in the ambulance on the final leg where she demands he kiss her. Both would be happy to escalate from the kiss under other conditions.
Steve and the SX-3217 is finally moving again. Progress slows after running over rail they had already cleared. The wind has thrown a lot of snow against the engines and they take a break to clear air filters.
The D&O train switches to the Kremmling Branch where they go slow with preparations should the unmaintained track give way. Despite worrisome wobbling, the snow and ice have firmed the railbed and allows them to continue. The wind is also better and the section men haven't been needed to rebuild anything.
Despite finally reaching Walsenberg and tracks maintained by the C&SL Railroad, progress isn't much quicker. Switches need to be dug out and it's all unfamiliar rail. They reach Grant's Cut and the rotary plow fails again, broken more than a simple fix. They are only a couple miles short!
