Frederich (no last name given), usally only called Fred, is an ex-Luftwaffe pilot that in 1971 ended up giving glider rides and instruction at the Waverly West Soaring Ranch near Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Fred teaches both Mark Gravengood and Jackie Archer how to fly the gliders and signs off on their certificate. He doesn't have a powered instructor's license, but he didn't see any bad habits that Jackie might have picked up from Mark. He admits to his own bad habit that "I tend to cut things a little too close"^Roc2-13

Fred wouldn't talk much of his past. It was rumored that Fred had over a dozen kills, but this was never confirmed.
