Summary
Mike and Kirsten return one day from the Evachevski's cottage to find that Homer Sanderson, owner of the Record-Herald had died, without leaving a clear line of inheritance. The editor, George Webb and the printer manager Dean Hoffman are able to eventually get an employee buyout of the paper. George becomes the publisher, Mike become the editor, and is able to hire Andy Bairnsfether as junior reporter, who stays less than a year, but has a very successful career in journalism. Kirsten becomes the Ad Manager when her boss leaves during the difficult times.
