Summary

After a few days, Mark and Jackie leave Waverly and head for Leadville, hoping to do some high country backpacking. Duke and John take them up in their Cessna 182 and they see that everything is still covered with snow. The altitude at Leadville (9927 ft.) significantly increases the runway length required for a takeoff, and they aren't able to take off that afternoon. Just before daybreak, a breeze comes up, and they just make it off the ground and fly to Salida for gas.
