Wayne Clark is the founder of the Clark family wealth in Spearfish Lake. During the depression, he managed to purchase much timber land around town as he built Clark Plywood, but it was with demand from World War 2 that ensured its success.

Wayne had one son, Brent, by an unnamed first wife. He subsequently dallied with Donna, wife of Garth Matson, and married her after her divorce. On his death, he left 40% in Clark Plywood to Donna, 40% to Brent, 10% to his step-son Frank Matson. The remaining smaller shares when to others.
