Andy Bairnsfether once worked for the Spearfish Lake Record-Herald, hired as one of a series of young reporters by Mike MacMahon. As was typical, after a few years of learning the ropes, he moved on to better opportunities in bigger towns. He is introduced in Busted Axle Road as an investigative reporter for the LA Times and possibly the most successful alumni, at least until Brenda Hodunk arrives.
