Martin Clemmens was one of Kwame Blythe's parishioners. At one point, Tanisha's father and her brother Kwame wanted Tanisha to marry Martin, something she adamantly opposed.

Martin was a convicted felon, and had served time in prison. He was known in the congregation as Kwame's enforcer. Martin was suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Vivian Hammerstrom, a white woman who had a clandestine affair with Kwame.

By July 2002, Martin was back behind bars because of an assault and possession of firearms.^GT21
