Summary

Dave and the boys, Shae, JoAnne and Hazel have a family-style Christmas. Dave reflects that it's a more comfortable celebration than those he has while Julie was alive.

They all have a post-holiday dinner at Vicky and Jason's place. Lots of the Class of 1988 is there, usually with their mates and spouses. In addition, Duane shows up with his girlfriend. Dave, Shae, Eve talk about how, to their surprise, the Bradford group became a pretty good group of friends. Neither Shae nor Eve had good experience in town while at high school, but they felt accepted now, which was especially pleasant since they didn't have a lot of friends in Philadelphia and New York.

Shae and Dave drive back to New York, discussing Dave's book on the way and making progress with it. They meet New Year with intimacy, and Dave is glad to leave 2001 behind.
