Summary

Dave does more thinking regarding the slush pile and possible on-line book sales, but his ideas are still vague.

He catches up with his accountant, and finds that the tax for the year will be significant, but things are under control, and he will still have more money than he ever expected.

Under some pressure from his colleagues, he brings Shae as his date to the Dunlap and Fyre Christmas party. Dressed to kill, Shae makes quite an impression, not only with her appearance but also with her storytelling skill. She finds that Rayme Haynes is attracted to dominant women, and she plays one briefly to send him away. Shae later tells Dave that she is not really attracted to the scene, and likes Dave because he neither tries to dominate, nor submits: he is his own person.
